verybody knows the importance of good role models. They provide inspiration and can prompt people into taking action. For business owners and leaders, having role models of other business owners who have been successful can help define their own vision of what they want to achieve and provide practical examples of how that success has been attained. There are also significant benefits for business owners and leaders to BE role models, creating a culture for their business that contributes to success.

1 Sir Richard Branson
Richard Branson’s story is one of the must reads for any starting entrepreneur. He had dyslexia, and he dropped out of school at the age of 16 and started his first project – a magazine called “Student”. The magazine was a success and made the initial boost of his entrepreneurship career. In 1969 he decided to get involved in the business with records, by creating “Virgin” – mail-order company for selling records. But his journey wasn’t always successful, in 1992 he had to sell “Virgin group”. In the end Branson founded more than 200 other successful companies under the name ‘Virgin’ and is one of the people who live life to the fullest and at the moment his net worth is estimated to be $4.6 billion.

2 Steve Jobs
Steve Jobs, founder of Apple Computer Corporation, was one of the most successful→ entrepreneurs. His success story is legendary.
His unwed mother decided to put him for adoption immediately after Steve was born because he was "an unexpected baby".
He went to college but decided to drop out because it was too expensive. Recalling his time there Steve Jobs said, "I didn’t have a dorm room, so I slept on the floor in friends’ rooms, I returned coke bottles for the 5¢ deposits to buy food with, and I would walk the 7 miles across town every Sunday night to get one good meal a week at the Hare Krishna temple."
In thinking through the many ways that Steve Jobs inspired me and millions of others, one of my favorite Steve Jobs stories is something he shared during his famous Stanford commencement address back in 2005. It was a brief moment in his elegant speech that brought home the point that inspiration is where you find it – and that it can be anywhere if you remain open to it. It’s amazing sometimes how powerful even the smallest influences can be in leading to exciting and game-changing products and services that captivate people and forge a deep emotional connection to a brand, one that is so powerful that it becomes intertwined into your life, as it is truly part of you.

3 John Paul Dejoria
John Paul DeJoria, the man behind a hair-care empire and Patron Tequila, once lived in a foster home and his car.
Before the age of 10, DeJoria, a first-generation American, sold Christmas cards and newspapers to help support his family. He was eventually sent to live in a foster home and even spent some time in a gang before joining the military.
With a $700 dollar loan, DeJoria created John Paul Mitchell Systems and sold the shampoo door-to-door while living in his car. He later started Patron Tequila, and now invests in other industries.

4 larry Ellison
Oracle co-founder Larry Ellison dropped out of college after his adoptive mother died, and he held odd jobs for eight years.
Net worth: $49.8 billion
Born in Brooklyn, New York, to a single mother, Ellison was raised by his aunt and uncle in Chicago. After his aunt died, Ellison dropped out of college and moved to California to work odd jobs for the next eight years. He founded software development company Oracle in 1977, which is now one of the largest technology companies in the world.

5 Francois Pinault
Pinault is now the face of fashion conglomerate Kering (formerly PPR), but at one time, he had to quit high school because he was teased so harshly for being poor. As a businessman, Pinault is known for his "predator" tactics, which include buying smaller firms for a fraction of the cost when the market crashes. He eventually started PPR, which owns high-end fashion houses including Gucci, Stella McCartney, Alexander McQueen, and Yves Saint Laurent.
